Fuel consumption and bunker monitoring onboard a gas carrier
Electronic measurement and reporting of marine fuel use and efficiency
Marine vessels burn significant amounts of fuel for propulsion, energy production and also for other processes on board. Fuel expenses are in most cases a significant part of the running costs for commercial vessels, and with falling freight rates, owners are compelled to focus on increased efficiency. In addition, regulations from IMO and the EU require operators and owners to report on the fuel consumption and effluent emissions from each vessel. Some charter operators also require electronic fuel monitoring systems to comply with their environmentally responsible profile.
Whether motivated by a desire to save on fuel costs or meet regulatory compliance, Electronic Fuel Management Systems (EFMS) and performance monitoring systems help both the crew and the ship owner keep track of all the fuel consumed, and the corresponding emissions. For accurate accounting of total fuel consumption on board, each offtake point is separately monitored with a flow meter.
The combination of the KROHNE EcoMATE™ system and the KROHNE OPTIMASS Coriolis mass flowmeters provide an accurate and reliable monitoring system that measures each fuel consumption point on board a ships or a fleet of ships. These include the main engine, auxiliary engines, generators, boilers, incinerators and inert gas generators. Other functionality in EcoMATE™ includes bunker monitoring, analysis and monitoring of energy efficiency and emissions (CO2, SOx, NOx), vessel tracking, configurable voyage data reports, remote diagnostics, data storage and a cloud service option for transmitting data to shore. Through the Cloud functionality, the ship owner gains a full operational overview from their shore base, and can easily monitor a whole fleet of ships. EcoMATE™ is fully compliant with the EU MRV and the IMO DCS requirements.
